Abstract

The development of 3D printing sometimes referred as additive manufacturing technology is growing at a very fast pace due to the development of new and improved material, development of diverse types of printing mechanism and integration of ML for making the process efficient. This paper is specifically concerned with the capability of these novel materials polymers, metal composites and biological based materials with enhanced capability of offering better mechanical, thermal, and functional performances in the printed parts. In addition, we go through new 3D printing categories including multi material, hybrid rapid additive subtractive manufacturing, high speed and continuous 3D printing which are the future of complexity, speed and precision. The combination of optimization using machine learning has extended more advancement in 3D printing by allowing real time controls, prediction of defects, and many more forms of optimization for various properties such as strength, surface finish, amount of material, etc. Examples from aerospace, healthcare, and consumer product companies point to increasingly widespread use of 3DP in protoyping, HIPs, and eco-friendlier production. This study points to the fact that advanced materials, novel processes, and intelligent systems are key enablers to realize the full design characteristics of 3D printing to enable next generation manufacturing solutions.
