Fabrication and analyse the mechanical characterization of e-glass and jute fiber-reinforced laminates
Abstract
The present work focused to analyze the mechanical characteristics for the E-glass/Jute/CSM E 450 GSM epoxy resin polymer laminates. E-glass woven roving with Jute & Chopped Strand Mat E have been used to study the fabrication of composite laminates where the effect of increasing layers of E-glass fiber on the mechanical characteristics of laminates was investigated. Tensile tests are conducted in accordance with ASTM D-638 for evaluating the force exerted on the materials during laboratory testing when subjected to axial force. According to ASTM D-790, laminates are tested on their stiffness and bending properties. Charpy impact test is conducted according to ASTM D-256 standards to measure the impact resistance of the structural materials as they are subjected to energy absorbing applications during impact events. Also, according to the ASTM D-2240, hardness tests are conducted to find out the tendency of the laminates to be indented or deformed. The results found that the composite laminate L3 has higher tensile strength to area ratio compared to other samples. This could be attributed to the chopped strand mat (450 gsm), which has been found to have better interaction of the binding with the resin than jute fiber.
