Abstract

The aim of this research is to describe the development of Project Based Learning (PBL) model learning tools using the Science, Environment, Technology and Society (SETS) approach to improve students’ critical and creative thinking skills in class V MI science learning in Chapter 8 my dear earth, my poor earth, topic oh, my environment is getting damaged, to test its feasibility in terms of validity, practicality and effectiveness. The research method used is the 4D R&D model which consists of 4 stages, namely define, design, develop, disseminate. The subjects of this research were all class V students at MI Nurul Huda Ketambul, Tuban,Palang, East Java, Indonesia. Limited product trials were carried out on small groups of 6 class V B students and field trials on class V A students at MI Nurul Huda. The data collection technique used to test product quality consists of validity, practicality and effectiveness data through questionnaires and observations. Testing the validity of media experts, material experts and language experts obtained very valid results, the test instruments were valid and reliable. Based on the results of field trials, in terms of the practicality of the learning tools, the teacher response questionnaire results for teaching modules were 97.7%, LKPD was 92.5%, teaching materials were 90%, learning media were 95% and test instruments were 96.8%. Meanwhile, the results of the student questionnaire response to LKPD learning tools were 92.5%, teaching materials were 91.44%, learning media were 91.97%. Based on the results of the Wilcoxon test, there is a difference between the pretest and posttest scores for critical and creative thinking abilities with a positive rank of 190.00, a ties score of 0 and an asymp.sig (2 - tailed) score of 0.000, meaning there is a difference between the pretest and posttest results. Based on the results of the N-Gain Score test, critical thinking gets a mean value of 0.6175 and creative thinking gets a mean value of 0.6780, so it is concluded that it is in the moderately critical and moderately creative categories.
