RT duroid dielectric material-based design and simulation of medium gain patch antenna for sub-urban areas wireless communication
Abstract
Fifth generation and beyond technology has widespread all around the world requiring high gain antenna for the effective communication system. But for sub-urban areas or country side network, the medium gain antenna is more significant due to its broader radiation pattern. This paper presents an RT Duroid dielectric material-based patch antenna having volumetric dimension 11 mm × 12.64 mm × 1.7 mm for sub-urban areas wireless communication. The designed antenna has five square slots of dimension 0.25 mm × 0.25 mm, two rectangular slots having dimensions 1 mm × 0.25 mm and four circle shaped slots having radius 0.125 mm on the patch of the antenna. The antenna is designed and simulated at 30 GHz through high frequency structure simulator (HFSS). The designed antenna provides four band characteristics at 25 GHz, 31 GHz, 37 GHz & 43 GHz, providing a gain of 5.2 dB and wider bandwidth of 1.89 GHz, at a reflection coefficient of -15.53 dB. For all bands voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) lies between 1 and 2, indicating good impedance matching in between the feed and antenna. Novelty of the present work is identified in terms of the quadband feature, size miniaturization, cost effectivity, good directivity, gain and bandwidth. The proposed antenna is suitable for the fifth-generation mobile communication in sub-urban areas, satellite communication etc.
