Abstract

In this literature survey, the recent development of AI used in social studies learning is reviewed, concentrating on adaptive learning systems. AI-driven adaptive learning systems can be used to individualize the learning experience to cater for different student needs and ensure better classroom engagement. This study employed a review of literature approach to gather and analyze the information on AI education in social studies within elementary schools. The study also identifies several future-oriented trends such as intelligent tutoring systems, automated assessments via natural language processing, and AI-enabled gamification. But the review also reveals pathways and areas of research on access, teacher-supported, as well as ethical considerations to AI in elementary education. These findings offer valuable input for educators and policymakers aiming to capitalize AI power to enhance elementary-school-based social studies instruction, fostering more dynamic and equitable learning settings.
