Abstract

The prospects for the development of the forestry industry are largely associated with the expanded use of space monitoring. This technology is based on the quantitative growth of orbital satellites and the improvement of data collection and analysis capabilities. Space monitoring of forests in 2023 will cover more than 250 million hectares in 40 regions of the country. Unfortunately, the quality of existing official information on the state of forests cannot be called high. On its basis, it is impossible to obtain sufficiently complete and reliable ideas about either the real total area of forests or their composition and productivity. To estimate these characteristics based on satellite information, models and special data processing methods are needed.
