Towards a framework for complex software design: Challenges and perspectives
Abstract
Complex software systems are of crucial importance for various domains, solving complex problems and advancing technology. However, the management and design of these systems are still a problem, starting with the lack of general guidelines and continuing with the low transferability of results, and the need for integration. These are some of the difficulties encountered as this research forms the first part of a project aiming at minimizing these challenges by developing a new, generalized and standardized design framework that can be implemented in different types of large software systems. With the integration of various kinds of existing knowledge and the adoption of an interdisciplinary view of the world, this framework will help to identify gaps and offer practical advice on how to design and manage large and complex software systems successfully to achieve their goals. Further, it is crucial to note that the suggested framework is a much more flexible solution that can be applied in different fields ranging from healthcare to finance without significant modifications because of its main advantage – cross-domain applicability. Therefore, this paper examines currently closed works within the task of pinpointing and vindicating the main evasive characteristics of such a design framework. The obtained results are both conceptually and practically relevant.
