Abstract

Determining object distance and actual size from single 2D image became an urgent need to accompany technological advances in many different scientific and industrial areas such autonomous driving and microbiological environment. Several scientific studies relied on expensive, complex and lengthy calculations with variable accuracies. In this paper, we revive a novel method, build on previously published algorithm, which calculates both the object distance and dimensions from a single image, albeit, the camera aperture angle and object full field of view distance are known. Our method uses resizing techniques combined with geometrical calculations and pixel size adjustments. The method is exact and fast, which makes the calculations to be done in few steps.
