Next-generation communication networks enabled by nanotechnology
Abstract
Next generation communication networks are emerging with nanotechnology as a transformational force, providing capabilities beyond imagination in terms of efficiency, scalability and performance. Using examples from the application, benefits and associated challenges of nanotechnology, this study explores how nanotechnology can make communication system approaches. Nano powered components, like graphene based nano antennas, nano-transceivers, and nanonetwork, deliver high speed data transmission, low latency and energy efficiency, which must be enabled as key enablers to future communications paradigms. Simulations and experimental validations demonstrate the huge reduction of energy consumption and latency provided by nanotechnology. Nano enabled devices save 70% in energy consumption and cut latency by more than 70 percent compared to conventional technologies. Nevertheless there are challenges limiting the adoption of nanotechnology, including manufacturing scalability, integration with existing infrastructure, and environmental concerns. As part of future exploration, they consider advanced manufacturing techniques, the standardization of protocols, and convergence with sectors of development such as quantum communications and artificial intelligence. The authors conclude that although nanotechnology may prove revolutionary for communication networks, dedicated interdisciplinary research and collaboration are both necessary to overcome current limits, and essential to exploit its full potential. These findings suggest a roadmap for using nanotechnology to develop more intelligent, more efficient communication systems.
