Strategic approaches to chromone synthesis: A comprehensive overview
Abstract
Chromones represent an important molecular structure in medicinal chemistry due to their diverse biological activities, rendering them significant in drug discovery endeavors. This review aims to elucidate the various synthesis methods of chromones in chemistry. Several synthetic strategies exist for constructing chromones, leveraging starting materials such as chalcones, salicylic acid and its derivatives. The synthesis of chromones encompasses diverse methodologies employing both metal and metal free catalysts, nanomaterials, and various other catalysts. Beyond traditional catalysts, innovative methodologies have been developed to access chromones. Microwave-assisted synthesis, flow chemistry, and solvent-free conditions represent some of the cutting-edge approaches employed to streamline chromone synthesis, enhancing reaction efficiency and sustainability.
