Abstract

Security concerns have grown due to the proliferation of IoT and the usage of limited devices. Information security is required to reduce several data dangers, including this data breach. An important component of information security is cryptography. For devices with constrained resources, lightweight encryption has been proposed as a way to reduce hardware implementation costs. Use hybrid encryption rather than just one encryption algorithm to secure the data. The present cipher is the subject of this review. An analysis of PRESENT cryptography improvements from 2013 to the beginning of 2024 is presented in this research. Seventy-two scientific papers were found when we conducted a search for papers on the issue. Most of the 13 research reviews we located concerned lightweight algorithms like the PRESENT method. We discovered eight researchers working on a new algorithm that builds upon the current one. Four studies were located that enhanced the PRESENT key. Nineteen research publications were located that use various mathematical techniques and procedures to investigate or attack the PRESENT algorithm. Eleven papers assessed hardware architecture in IoT applications or compared it with alternative ciphers. Finally, we explored future directions for lightweight cryptography research to maximize the trade-offs between price, speed, and security. This review paper’s primary goal is to educate aspiring researchers, students studying this area, and non-cryptographers alike with an increasing amount of material.
