Abstract

Chrysanthemum cultivation involves a dynamic interplay of factors that shape both plant development and growth. Although development and growth are intertwined, they respond to distinct environmental cues: temperature primarily influences development, while light intensity and CO2 concentration predominantly govern growth. This chapter provides a comprehensive exploration of chrysanthemum development, elucidating phenology, plant architecture, and the intricacies of root, leaf, stem, flower, and seed formation. We discuss the environmental factors influencing the growth and development of different plant parts and delve into the nuanced relationship between environmental conditions and the developmental physiology of chrysanthemum. Furthermore, we discuss grafting techniques as a strategic approach to increase the vigor of stock plants and enhance the rooting quality of cuttings. The developmental physiology in this chapter offers insights for optimizing cultivation practices for improved productivity and quality in the chrysanthemum industry.
