Abstract

In recent years, the intersection of bioeconomics and sustainable tourism has emerged as a pivotal area of growth and innovation, especially in response to challenges like the ones presented by the COVID-19 pandemic that significantly impacted the tourism industry. The concept of “bioeconomy-based tourism,” as introduced by Radek Rinn, Markéta Kalábová, and Vilém Jarský, offers a promising pathway toward sustainable development within the tourism sector. This approach not only aims at reviving the tourism industry but also emphasizes the significance of sustainable practices that align with the principles of bioeconomics. This chapter aims to delve into how bioeconomics is shaping the future of sustainable tourism. It will uncover the economic and environmental dimensions that bioeconomics brings to the tourism industry, advocating for a model of tourism that fosters economic growth, environmental preservation, and sustainable development. Through examining case studies and identifying the challenges and opportunities ahead, we set the foundation for how policy, technology, and innovative practices can together steer the tourism sector toward a more sustainable and bioeconomically driven future.
