Abstract

Motivation as one of the main drivers of human actions is a crucial concept in the context of tourism behavior. Since motivation contains psychological desires and physiological needs, it is a complex system. The widely recognized push and pull motivation framework offers valuable insights into travel behavior. Thus, insights into such dynamics may help to improve destination marketing and sustainable tourism practices by aligning the intrinsic desires of consumers with the external offerings focused on providing meaningful and responsible travel experiences. Future research should investigate how motivation evolves in response to technological advances, sustainability demands, and changes in social endeavor values. This chapter demonstrates the usefulness of the framework and its applications in tourism.
