Abstract

The Xyloryctidae are a moderately sized family of gelechioid moths with a particularly rich Australian fauna. This chapter describes the complex and convoluted taxonomic history of the Xyloryctidae from the description in 1805 of the first species now placed in the family to the modern basis for the family given by molecular genetics and integrative taxonomy in 2020. Additional notes on biology and morphology conclude the account.
