Abstract

As is the case with most widespread moth species, research on Ochrogaster lunifer has been localized, sporadic and piecemeal. The weight of evidence summarized here points to Ochrogaster lunifer being a species complex. Since the species is of medical and veterinary importance, it is likely that systematic research efforts will continue and the species’ limits will be resolved as this will help sort out the ecology and inform management. We can only speculate how many cryptic species complexes await discovery in Australia’s rich moth fauna.
