Abstract

The convergence of artificial intelligence (AI) and functional genomics is transforming plant research, enabling unprecedented insights into gene functions, regulatory networks, and phenotypic traits. This chapter explores the applications of AI methodologies, including machine learning, deep learning, and natural language processing, in functional genomics. These technologies accelerate data analysis, facilitate genomic predictions, and unravel complex biological processes. We also highlight AI-driven advances in omics data integration, precision phenotyping, and trait prediction, which are crucial for crop improvement and sustainable agriculture. The chapter concludes with challenges, ethical considerations, and future directions at the AI–functional genomics interface.1
