Abstract

Barium titanate nanoparticles (BaTiO₃ NPs) were synthesised via a green solution combustion synthesis using Ipomoea purpurea flower extract as a sustainable biofuel, providing an eco-friendly alternative to conventional hazardous fuels. The BaTiO₃ NPs crystallized in a cubic phase with a crystallite size of ∼43 nm and a surface area of 20.11 m²/g. The NPs exhibited multifunctionality across biomedical, agricultural, and environmental domains: antioxidant activity reached 53.2 ± 4.5% DPPH scavenging at 400 µg/mL; anticancer studies on MCF-7 cells showed an IC50 of 88.1 µg/mL; seed germination increased to 98% at 5 mM; photocatalytic dye degradation exceeded 50%; and corrosion inhibition reached 69.5% in 0.5 M HCl. These results highlight the novelty and promise of BaTiO₃ NPs synthesised from Ipomoea purpurea as sustainable multifunctional nanomaterials with applications in health care, agriculture, environmental remediation, and corrosion protection.HighlightsGreen synthesis of BaTiO3 nanoparticles using Ipomoea purpurea flower extract.Crystalline cubic BaTiO3 with defect-rich structure (δ = 5.41 × 10¹⁰ cm−2).Demonstrated multifunctionality in antioxidant, anticancer, agricultural, and catalytic applications.Achieved >50% dye degradation and up to 69.5% corrosion inhibition.Sustainable nanomaterial with broad biomedical, environmental, and electrochemical relevance.
