Abstract

Phosphor materials are popularly known to bring revolutionary changes in the lighting and display industries. To encourage technological progress, phosphors with different emission colour and excellent thermal stability are required. This study explores the structural and optical properties of singly doped Ca2(BO3)0.5(PO4)0.5Cl: Ln3 + (Ln = Tb, Dy), green and yellow emitting phosphors prepared using the solid-state reaction (SSR) route. X-ray diffraction studies confirmed the structure and formation of the desired compound based on ICDD data and literature. Photoluminescence emission (PL) spectra exhibited characteristic green emission of Tb3+ and yellow emission for Dy3+ ions at 545 nm (5D4 →7F5) for 377 nm excitation and 575 nm (4F9/2→6H13/2) for 386 nm excitation, respectively. The colour coordinate manifests green and yellow colour hues of the proposed Tb3+ and Dy3+ phosphor sample, respectively. Concentration quenching obtained for Dy3+ at 3.0 mol.%. due to neighbouring ion interaction. For Tb3+ ions, quenching is not obtained till 5.0 mol.%. Observed results suggest that the Ca2(BO3)0.5(PO4)0.5Cl:Ln3+ (Ln = Tb, Dy) phosphors may be a potential candidate used as green and yellow emitting phosphors for display, LEDs and other optical devices.
