Abstract

I offer a brief introduction to my book, Thinking of Necessity, and respond to discussions by Sam Kimpton-Nye, Sònia Roca Royes, and Naomi Thompson. I engage with Thompson on questions concerning the distinction between subjective and objective thought, and the role this distinction plays in my account of the role of modal concepts. I engage with Kimpton-Nye on questions concerning the relation between metaphysical and natural necessity, and the duality of possibility and necessity, and constraints on real modality. I engage with Roca Royes on questions concerning metaphysical necessity as the strictest real necessity, de re necessity, and implications for my account of metaphysical necessity.
