Abstract

This research proposes a two-port, highly isolated, wideband multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna for shared X/Ku band application. The motivation emanates from the growing demand for a compact MIMO antenna that concurrently provide wide bandwidth and high isolation. It measures 31 × 16.6 mm2 (1.3 λ0 × 0.69 λ0). To achieve wide bandwidth, triangular and rectangular slots are inserted in the patch. Two analogous patch antennas are kept 10 mm (0.42 λ0) apart, creating low isolation among the radiators. The design embodies a modified ground plane (DGS) along with a metamaterial (MTM) structure to boost the isolation. The fabricated antenna operating in the 8.39–13.5 GHz (48% impedance bandwidth) range achieves isolation of more than 30 dB. The measured MIMO parameters are as follows: ECC
