Abstract

Legendre's important three squares theorem identifies exactly which natural numbers are sums of three squares of integers. In this article, we introduce the reader to some of the interesting distribution properties that these integers possess. Along the way, we bring into play a little known but elegant formula of M. C. Chakrabarti proved in 1940, which helps us in proving some of the distribution properties we exhibit.
