Abstract

Despite gaining increased visibility in recent years, visceral food geographies alone are inadequate to address the active coagency of food matter and eating body. This article proposes a new material-visceral-cultural geographic framework and contextualizes it in the empirical case of gongfu tea. Through focus group interviews with tea merchants and experienced consumers, this study investigated the vital material-visceral-cultural geographies of place for Fenghuang single cluster. The findings offer a geographic interpretation of taste regimes and argue for the critical role of visceral geographies in sustaining tea culture.
