Abstract

Online digital platforms have rapidly become central infrastructures shaping contemporary economic, social and political life. Their growing role has important implications for regional development and economic geography. However, so far research on digital platforms remains only partially integrated into debates on regional development and spatial economic change. This special collection aims at improving our knowledge and understanding of the interrelations between digital platforms and regional development. We both discuss the contributions to the collection and, on the basis of that, we provide avenues for future research on the interrelations between digital platforms and regional development.
