What is informational is relational: How close relationships are implicated in information quality concerns
Abstract
In this article, I argue that research on information quality and its effects has focused too much on the individual effects of (mis/dis) information and not enough on both the relational factors at play in evaluating information and the relational effects in response to (mis/dis) information. I overview my research on cross-cutting romantic relationships and how partners interact with and respond to political (mis/dis) information. In turn, I consider the implications of these findings for researchers and practitioners concerned with information quality in contemporary democracy.
