Abstract

The growing role of digital platforms in scholarly communication has positioned altmetrics as useful complements to citation-based evaluation. This study investigates both the scholarly impact and online visibility of articles published in Journal of Semantic Web—Interoperability, Usability, Applicability from 2010 to 2025 through an integrated bibliometric and altmetric framework. Using data from Dimensions and Altmetric Explorer, the analysis covers citations, Altmetric Attention Scores, and Mendeley readership for 259 articles, supported by network visualizations in VOSviewer. Bibliometric results identify highly cited authors, institutionally dense collaboration networks, and a Europe-centered research structure dominated by leading universities such as Leipzig University and the University of California. Altmetric findings reveal social media, particularly X, as the primary driver of online attention, with limited correspondence to citation impact. Correlation analysis confirms a strong association between Mendeley readership and citations, highlighting the complementary roles of bibliometrics and altmetrics in assessing scholarly visibility and influence in Semantic Web research.
