Resiliency-based scheduling for the economic dispatch of electricity smart distribution network in the presence of flexibility energy sources
Abstract
The integration of demand response programmes (DRPs) and high renewable energy (RES) penetration poses significant challenges for optimal electric load supply in smart distribution networks (SDNs). This paper proposes a robust optimisation (RO) approach to enhance the economic operation of SDNs by leveraging flexible energy resources like energy storage systems (ESSs) and DRPs. The study aims to reduce operating costs, manage RES variability, and improve system resilience under normal and high-impact, low-probability (HILP) events. It investigates the role of ESSs in stabilising RES fluctuations and analyzes the benefits of DRPs in minimising costs and reducing load interruptions. The RO method is employed to model RES uncertainties within the economic distribution framework of SDNs. A standard 33-bus test system is used for validation, with simulation results demonstrating the approach's effectiveness in reducing outage loads and improving system reliability and economic efficiency. This highlights its potential for practical implementation in SDNs.
