Entropy generation analysis in longitudinal porous fin wetted by nanofluids with internal heat generation, convection and radiation
Abstract
Fins are the structures that protrude from bodies immersed in fluids, increasing surface area exposure to promote convection and radiation. In some applications, wet fins in nanofluids are needed to increase fin efficiency with minimum entropy production. In this regard, a longitudinal porous fin wetted by various nanofluids with water as base fluid and copper, alumina and titanium as nanoparticles have been considered in this study to examine the entropy generation in the heat transmission process. Fourier’s law of heat conduction, Darcy’s law and the second law of thermodynamics have been incorporated to derive the second-order ordinary differential equation, which delineates the present problem. The non-dimensional ruling equation is tackled through the Runge–Kutta-Fehlberg methods and a good agreement with the previous one is obtained. The consequences of internal heat generation, porous nature with convection-radiation and wetness conditions of the fin in nanofluids on entropy production have been scrutinised using graphs. It is explored that minimum entropy production can be attained with a lower temperature difference and a higher value of the wet porous parameter and among the considered nanofluids, Cu−water nanofluid helps the fin cool down faster and produces less entropy, as sequenced by TiO2−water and Al2O3−water nanofluids.
