Abstract

The essay examines an immigration enforcement raid on MacArthur Park in Los Angeles that took place on July 7, 2025. Although the raid resulted in no arrests, it generated significant concern among community residents, who viewed it as a deliberate show of force intended to threaten and intimidate the local population. The event is situated within the broader literature on discrimination, violence, and policing in urban parks. The essay raises questions about how such displays of state-sanctioned power and violence may shape immigrants’ sense of belonging and identity, and it calls for further research on their potential effects on immigrant communities and patterns of park use.
