Generalized thermoelastic responses in an infinite solid cylinder under a thermoelastic diffusion model including the Soret and Dufour effects
Abstract
This work presents a novel generalized thermoelastic diffusion model that enhances the understanding of coupled thermoelastic and diffusive processes. Unlike prior studies, it establishes a comprehensive framework for Fourier’s and Fick’s laws by integrating heat and diffusion relaxation times, as well as the Soret and Dufour effects, which account for cross-phenomena between thermal and chemical gradients. Building upon the foundational research of Nowacki and Sherief, this model constitutes a significant advancement with noteworthy practical implications. The proposed theory is applied to an infinitely long cylindrical body subjected to simultaneous thermal and chemical shocks on its surface. Solutions for the relevant field variables are obtained using the Laplace transform technique, combined with a robust numerical method for Laplace inversion. Comparative analyses with earlier models are performed to underscore the advancements achieved. Furthermore, graphical representations of various physical fields are provided to demonstrate the model’s applicability and validate its predictions. These contributions offer valuable insights into coupled thermal–diffusive systems, effectively extending the scope of existing theoretical frameworks.
