Abstract

Sulfur dioxide (SO2), as a typical atmospheric pollutant, mainly comes from the combustion of fossil fuels, ore smelting, and industrial emissions. It is one of the factors contributing to the formation of acid rain, posing a serious threat to the ecological environment, buildings, and human health. In order to effectively reduce SO2 emissions, countries have successively implemented strict emission standards, which has led to the continuous development of SO2 capture technology research. The capture of SO2 is mainly achieved through physical adsorption and chemical absorption, with the aim of transferring SO2 from the gas phase to the liquid or solid phase to generate easily manageable products. In addition, the application of new technologies such as ionic liquids and eutectic solvents is exploring green and efficient capture pathways. With the acceleration of industrialization and the increasing demand for environmental protection, the development of efficient and low-cost SO2 capture technology is of great significance and provides key support for global environmental protection and sustainable development. This article aims to review the current research progress of SO2 capture technology, explore the advantages and disadvantages of various technologies, and look forward to future development trends.
