Abstract

We recorded a colony of Mischocyttarus artifex Ducke, 1914 at the edge of a forest fragment on the Research Campus of the Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi (MPEG), Belém, Pará. The nest, found on 19 September 2023, on a Theobroma cacao L. leaf, is described, highlighting its structural and behavioral characteristics associated with camouflage strategies, and accompanied by illustrative images. In addition, we report two paralectotypes deposited in the Ducke Collection of the MPEG, with information on original labels, state of preservation, and historical context. This study extends the known distribution of M. artifex, with the first records of the species in eastern Amazonia and highlights the importance of urban forest fragments for the preservation of rare species.
