Abstract

A new Thomisidae species of the genus Onocolus Simon 1895 is described from the Brazilian Amazon, Onocolus onete sp. nov. and the first description of the female of Onocolus eloaeus Lise, 1980 is provided. The new species can be distinguished from other Onocolus by the narrower cephalic area, longer anterior legs, lower opisthosomal height, and a short, blunt, translucent vRTA that does not reach the cymbial margin. The female of O. eloaeus is recognized by a subtriangular opisthosoma with marked posterolateral projections, copulatory openings below the primary spermathecae, and parallel proximal ducts overlapping parallel distal ducts. The known distribution of O. eloaeus is now expanded beyond the Lower Amazon to include the Brazilian states of Roraima, Pará, Mato Grosso do Sul, Paraná, and São Paulo.
