The Dance Which Connects: Ecology of Mind, Power, and Care
Abstract
This article aims to highlight (i) how the notion of Ecology of Mind, coined by Gregory Bateson (1904–1980) in his main work (1972), arose from a troubled confrontation, both existential and scientific, with various fields of study that he addressed in his life; and (ii) how this notion retains its epistemological, cultural, and political relevance, despite the profound differences between our time and the one in which Bateson’s work developed; a relevance due to his original demythologization of the concept of “power” and his focus on the responsive care for the interconnected fabric of human and living relationships.
