Schizofutures
Abstract
Using Foucault, Deleuze and Guattari, this paper aims to create more ‘schizophrenic futures’ or ‘schizofutures’. It starts by contextualizing madness more generally as a complex, contingent phenomena. It looks at the nascent field of Mad Studies and how they are using contextualization of ‘mental health’ to create positive futures. It then argues for the importance of schizophrenia in terms of generating desire and multiplicity, which can both drive open futures. To illustrate, the transformative power of ‘schizofutures’ it takes a transdisciplinary turn, looking at a New Materialist vision of theology and ecology, before concluding.
