What do future Spanish primary education teachers know about physical maps?

Although research on geographic literacy has become frequent in recent years, there are no studies that have focused on the physical map of a country. The main objective of this research is to measure the knowledge of the physical environment of their country among a group of university students. For this purpose, 627 students of the Primary Education Teaching Degree have participated in this research. An innovative work method was used to measure their geographical knowledge of the physical environment based on the mental maps they drew. The results show a low level of knowledge regarding the main elements of the Spanish physical environment among the respondents, which is consistent with previous research.
