Abstract

This paper proposes a novel single layer deployable reflectarray antenna composed of subwavelength edge-tapered spiral stub-loaded square loop. Dimension of the 784-element (28 × 28) reflectarray is 213.92 mm × 213.92 mm with f/D ratio 0.25. Variable size technique has been used to attain phase shift range. To minimize feed blockage, an offset feed is used, and element parameters are optimized based on the wave’s incident angle to achieve the desired-phase shift. The antenna system operates from 13.4 GHz to 15.2 GHz. Measured results show that the overall gain ranges from 19 to 21.6dBic within this band. These performance characteristics make the reflectarray antenna suitable for Ku-band applications on a 12 U CubeSat.
