Abstract

Past research indicates that greater consumption of FNC leads to negative views on liberal political iconographies (e.g., race, immigration, science), but little work has been published on the relationship between FNC consumption and support for conservative political iconographies. We use framing theory to inform an empirical model in which we examine the relationships between FNC frequency of consumption and trust in white people, local police, and gun owners. The analysis uses Wave 2 of the Chapman University Survey of American Fears, Wave 2 (CSAF), collected in 2015. Our generalized logit models show that FNC consumption is correlated with greater odds of trust in white people, local police, and gun owners. Implications for theory, research and policy are discussed.
