Abstract

Hazardous waste, which arises as by-products of industrial activities, can pose significant threats to public health, property, and the environment. Given the inherent risks involved, hazardous waste management has garnered considerable attention from researchers seeking safe and effective logistics solutions through operational research methods. Due to the extensive volume of studies in this field, a systematic and comprehensive review is necessary. In this work, we thoroughly analyze the literature related to hazardous waste management utilizing operational research tools. Seventy-three publications from the past three decades are reviewed, focusing on model structures, as well as solution procedures and practical applications. Our contribution lies in several aspects: (1) to highlight recent advancements in hazardous waste management, (2) to identify the primary methodologies and research techniques employed, (3) to pinpoint gaps in the literature, and (4) to discuss future research possibilities.
