Data wars. The struggle between factual data and pseudodata in western society
Abstract
This paper presents a study on the confrontation that is developing in Western society between factual data and unverified data or pseudo-data, from an interdisciplinary perspective to try to understand the phenomenon and explore alternatives. The ‘fake news’ based on pseudo-data is present in all scenarios of Western society, waging a war against the truth and verifiable facts represented by factual data that affect the socio-political and cultural dynamics that sustain the social fabric. This phenomenon is weakening fundamental pillars of Western society such as democracy, human rights, or the scientific method, while redefining collective trust, the understanding of local and global facts, and the relationship and reaction of society. In the face of the growing prevalence of pseudo data, this study proposes an exploratory interdisciplinary analysis that integrates perspectives from law, communication and data visualization. The study not only examines the impact of this phenomenon but also proposes a possible solution framework based on the articulation of these perspectives, fostering synergies between law, media literacy, the humanization of data for visualization, and social-emotional learning, in the search for the application of the rule of law in cyberspace, as a fundamental basis of Western culture.
