Abstract

Degree apprenticeships are an innovative workforce strategy that originated in the United Kingdom and have been piloted in Australia to address critical skills shortages. Degree apprenticeships involve apprentices working while undertaking a university degree, integrating on-the-job learning and the application of knowledge. This study contributes to the development of a framework for successful implementation of degree apprenticeships, based on the Australian context. It identifies key inputs from stakeholders from industry, university and government as well as outcomes including increased skills in demand, social mobility and diversity. The findings offer valuable policy insights for countries seeking to respond to workforce needs through innovative strategies.
