Abstract

This study examines the University of Toledo’s selection of print monographs before and after the peak of several social movements, and the response to the COVID-19 protocols that occurred in 2020 and 2021. Social movements, such as the Black Lives Matter Protests, the parental rights movement, and the anti-vaccination backlash during the height of COVID-19 in the United States, along with the subsequent changes in public opinion during those moments in time, served to increase in the selection and usage of print monographs for teaching and research. This longitudinal study covers the University of Toledo’s collection development librarians’ selection habits and patron circulation patterns from 2017 through 2024.
