Abstract

In this paper, I describe my journey and devotion to studying twinship/alter-ego, one of the most significant concepts in Heinz Kohut’s Psychology of the Self. There are many reasons why the twinship/alter-ego experience inspired me, but I note here my cultural and ethnic background, my psychoanalytic training in New York, and the 9/11 attacks during my candidacy. I will also explore the difference between a loss of twinship/alter-ego in Kohut’s life and that I found in my life.
