Abstract

The market demand for antimicrobial fabrics is growing rapidly. Some traditional antimicrobial finishing technologies may impair the wearing performance of fabrics when inappropriate harsh process conditions are adopted. However, achieving fast and convenient antimicrobial finishing of fabrics in home scenarios without significant damage to the properties of fabrics is still a major challenge. Herein, a novel method of antimicrobial finishing of fabrics feasible in home scenarios, using spraying techniques with a household dryer, is presented. Notably, the antibacterial rate of the fabrics treated by this method is more than 99% against E. coli and S. aureus. The hand feel, air permeability, and moisture permeability of the fabrics after finishing retained most of the original properties. This new dryer-based antimicrobial fabric treatment offers a convenient and efficient approach, promising broad applications in textile finishing. By restoring their antimicrobial functionality, this process extends the garments’ service life and cuts down on textile waste.
