Abstract

This editorial outlines expectations for data sharing and Data Availability Statements at Historical Biology as the journal transitions towards an Open and FAIR data policy. It provides practical guidance on archiving common palaeontological data types in appropriate repositories and on structuring clear, citable data statements. These practices aim to improve research transparency and reproducibility by ensuring that palaeontological datasets are open and FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable) through repository deposition and persistent identifiers.
