Abstract

This paper presents a novel analysis of a dielectric sensor utilizing the bi-characteristic-impedance transmission line (BCITL) model to enhance sensor sensitivity. The microwave sensor employs a complementary circular spiral resonators (CCSRs) to evaluate the dielectric material under test (MUT) when placed on its defected ground plane. The sensor’s performance was investigated using various MUTs. Interestingly, the proposed BCITL model produces three distinct peak frequencies, which exhibit enhanced frequency shifts with variations in the MUT dielectric constant, thereby significantly improving the sensor sensitivity. Experimental results demonstrate strong agreement between numerical simulations and measured data when the sensor is loaded with different MUTs.
