Dual-wideband high-gain stacked microstrip antenna design with multi-level resonant coupling analysis
Abstract
In this article, we discuss methods for expanding the operating frequency bandwidth of stacked microstrip antennas. By optimally combining multi-resonance structures placed at different levels without a dielectric substrate, we have developed a design for a dual-wide-band high-gain antenna. The manufactured antenna with a single input is matched with |S11| ≤–10 dB in two wide frequency sub-bands: 815–1022 MHz (22.5%) and 1987–2827 MHz (35%), with peak gains of 7–9 dBi in the lower sub-band and 11–14 dBi in the upper one. The antenna has a compact overall size (including the ground plane) of approximately 0.76λmax × 0.76λmax × 0.05λmax (2.64λmin × 2.64λmin × 0.17λmin) In the article, we provide approaches for the design of the antenna, present the results of its simulation using ANSYS EM Suite, and analyze the experimental findings performed on the manufactured prototype.
