Abstract

Traditional materials have long been used in daily applications, but modern demands require advanced materials with enhanced properties. This review explores the effects of novel reinforcements such as fibers, nanoparticles like carbon nanotubes (CNTs), and graphene oxide (GO) on polymer composites. These nanoparticle coatings significantly improve fiber-matrix bonding, leading to superior mechanical properties such as tensile strength, modulus, and fracture toughness. Tribological performance, including wear resistance and reduced coefficient of friction, is enhanced due to increased surface roughness and interlocking from the coatings. The composites also show improved resistance to erosive wear under various conditions and exhibit enhanced thermal properties like stability and conductivity due to better heat dissipation. Overall, this study highlights the critical role of nanoparticle-coated fiber reinforcements in advancing the mechanical, tribological, erosive, and thermal performance of polymer composites, offering promising applications in high-performance materials.
