Abstract

The article addresses platform worker trade unions in Russia. Although there are several attempts to build democratic and militant unions to represent platform workers' interests, emerging organisations remain small and incapable of regular and effective activities. The individualised labour practices of platform workers and the unfavourable legal and political environment are amongst the main reasons hindering the development of platform worker unions. Furthermore, the example of these organisations demonstrates the limitations of both top-down servicing unions and decentralised worker networks.
