Should I have to pay to work? On responsibility for the cost of disability accommodations
Abstract
Drawing on my lived experience as an advanced medical trainee with cerebral palsy, this essay considers the question: should I have to pay to work? Beyond arguing that individuals with disabilitiesshouldn’t have to pay for accommodations to work, I highlight the lack of institutionalsolutions to fully fund my accommodations infrastructure. I also suggest that disability studies scholars need to facilitate difficult discussions around who bears responsibility for the cost of workplace accommodations.
